(1090 The Fan) — Washington State dropped its fourth consecutive conference game, this time losing a 71-44 lopsided contest to Oregon, Sunday afternoon.
Jason Calliste scored 20 points for Oregon (14-5, 2-5) off the bench and starting forward Mike Moser added nine points and a team-high nine rebounds to help the Ducks snap a 5-game losing streak.
Oregon had started the season 13-0 and risen has high as 10th in the polls, before falling into a tailspin that started with a loss to Colorado.
Not a single player reached double figures for Washington State (8-12, 1-7), which has now lost eight of its last 10 games. Que Johnson scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds to lead the Cougars in both categories.
Over the course of that dismal 10 game stretch, the Cougars have struggled to score more than 50 points a game. With its output of 44 points Sunday, Washington State’s offense is averaging just over 52 points during the stretch.
The Cougars also shot a mere 25 percent, Sunday, furthering an issue that has been a serious concern for the team all season. The team ranks 293rd in NCAA division 1 basketball with a field-goal percentage a shade under 42. Their poor shooting, methodical tempo and high turnover rate has left them in the cellar of the Pac-12 conference through eight games.
With games against Washington and Colorado coming up, the Cougars have some work to do.
