(1090 The Fan) — In a battle of the bottom two Pac-12 conference teams, USC edged Washington State 79-68, Thursday night.
Byron Wesley scored 31 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to help USC snap a 10-game losing streak. USC (11-19, 2-15) won for just the second time in the last 17 games by shooting 51 percent from the field and holding the Cougars to under 37 percent.
Meanwhile, Washington State (9-20, 2-15) dropped its eighth straight and 12th of its last 13 games by struggling to stop the Trojans in the second half. USC scored 44 points over the final 20 minutes.
The Cougars held a 36-35 lead after the first half and extended it to 44-35 thanks to an 8-0 run to start the second half. But after a Royce Woolridge foul at 17:55, the Trojans reeled off a 16-2 run that put them ahead 51-46 with 12:46 to play.
The Trojans would hold on from there for the team’s first win since January 22nd.
DaVonte Lacy had 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Cougars’ offense in defeat. The Cougars wrap up the regular season, Saturday with a home game against UCLA.
