(1090 The Fan) — Despite a solid first half effort, Washington State succumbed to the bigger front court of Cal in a 76-55 road loss, Saturday.
Cal (14-4, 5-0) remained undefeated in conference play thanks to 16 points from guard Justin Cobbs and 13 more from Tyrone Wallace.
Meanwhile, Washington State (8-10, 1-5) suffered its sixth loss in its last eight games. One major component in the loss to the Bears, Saturday, was the team getting just 12 points from its starting five.
Reserves D.J. Shelton — 17 points and 11 rebounds — and guard Que Johnson — 18 points — carried the Cougars’ offense.
After the Cougars went into the halftime break trailing by just one point, 34-33, the team simply watched as Cal ran out to an 18-4 run through the first eight minutes of the second half to virtually put this conference matchup to bed.
Washington State returns home next week for a three-game homestand against its Pacific Northwest rivals looking to find some consistency.
